Angels come in all shapes and sizes and are composed of matter that exhibits the properties of both waves and particles, like light. The composition material of the Angels is very different from that of humans, but the wave pattern is 99.89 percent identical with human DNA pattern. What the Angels really are is not really known, but the reason for their attacks seems to stem from the Human Complementation project. They exhibit tremendous power and are not affected by conventional weapons and they can regenerate any part of their bodies. The red globe that the Angels have seems to be their power source as well as their weak point, the red globe is not always visible. The Angels also possess Absolute Terror Fields. Those field allows the Angels to deflect any attack that is weaker that of the field, these fields are incredibly strong. The EVAs also possess the ability to generate an AT-Field, but not as strong.

Lilith is the first angel that mankind encountered. Her body is located deep below the heart of NERV on a board where the Lance of Longinus is piercing her. LCL ( which is her blood ) leaks from her and as you know is used for EVA plugs, her 9 eyes are the basis for SEELE's logo.

Adam was found and captured in Antarctica in the year 2000, where he was shrunk to embryo size. Although he shrank, his power didn't shrink with him and it was released as a great explosion, causing the Antarctic to melt.

Sachiel came 15 years after Adam was found. This angel is one of the physically stronger ones in the series. He has powerful arms that have these hammer type things built in them, that can pound the life out of someone. Shinji had to fight Sachiel when he first arrived at NERV.

Shamshel looks incredibly similar to a serpent and has the power to fly. This angel has these energy whips that can slice through steel like a hot knife through butter.

Ramiel looks more like a giant floating diamond than a angel. It's main attack is this energy beam that has long range and deadly power. Ramiel also has a very strong AT field so this leaves NERV down the stream without a paddle on how to destroy it. Ramiel also has this energy drill that it uses to try to drill through 22 layers of thick steel to try to destroy NERV HQ.

Gaghiel is a Angel that has the ability to swim underwater. In the water he has incredible speed and agility, that proves deadly for Shinji and Asuka when they battle it. Gaghiel is also a huge angel, taking up the size of a Aircraft Carrier!

Israfel has the ability to spit into 2 angels. When EVA-01 and EVA-02 were sent to destroy this Angel they ended up with their heads in the ground. To defeat them, Shinji and Asuka had to synchronize themselves with a 62 sec tune.
